Siebold's Bath

Thank you for visiting Siebold's Bath! Firstly, we will explain the properties of the Ureshino hot spring water. The spring water contains a wealth of sodium-bicarbonate/chloride, and after leaving the hot spring your skin will be silky smooth; thus earning the title "beauty enhancing hot spring."

Entrance

Siebold's Bath is a two-story building with a spacious lobby and history rich atmosphere that will leave a lasting first impression when you see it. This building has become more accessible by removing all unnecessary steps and is fully equipped with a large public bath, private family baths, and a relaxation area.

The origin of the name “Siebold no Yu" (Siebold's Bath)

Before the building was reconstructed, it was called Furuyu Onsen. Now, if you search this name on the internet, the Furuyu Onsen in Saga city will come up in the results. We were seeking proposals nationally to try to find a suitable name for the newly restored Furuyu Onsen. The name that had the most votes was “Siebold,” so we contacted and got permission to use the name from one of the 4th generation descendants of Siebold.

It is said that Siebold, a German ophthalmologist and botanist, came to Japan during the Edo period, opened a school called “Narutakijyuku,” and then came down to Ureshino to enter and investigate the quality of the hot springs.
